Measuring Mission -
Board and Executive Advisory - 2023-2024

Context

Measuring Mission is a mission-driven nonprofit organization seeking to strengthen how it allocates resources and evaluates impact across its portfolio. Organizational leadership and the board were navigating decisions about how to prioritize assets, investments, and initiatives in a constrained and evolving funding environment.

The Challenge

The organization needed a clear, defensible way to assess mission return across current and future investments. Existing decision-making processes lacked a shared framework, making it difficult for leadership and the board to align on priorities, tradeoffs, and long-term strategy.

My Role

Executive and Board Advisor, supporting leadership and the Board of Directors.

What I Did
  • Developed a mission-aligned taxonomy to categorize assets, programs, and investments

  • Designed decision-making frameworks to support board-level discussions on mission return and strategic tradeoffs

  • Facilitated stakeholder engagement to surface priorities, assumptions, and constraints

  • Supported strategic planning processes to guide near- and long-term investment decisions

Outcome / Impact
  • Enabled board and executive leadership to make clearer, more consistent decisions about asset allocation

  • Strengthened alignment between mission, strategy, and investment choices

  • Provided the board with practical tools to evaluate tradeoffs and maximize return on mission over time
